Advent 2025 part 1

Preaching from Matthew 1:1-18, our first Advent Sermon from Pastor Hugh Chalk.

This Advent we begin by looking at the “comings” of Jesus — His first coming 2,000 years ago and His promised return. Focusing on Matthew 1:1–18, we explore the often-overlooked genealogy of Jesus and discover that it’s not just a list of names, but a real, historical family story filled with flawed yet faithful people. From Abraham to David, and from Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Bathsheba to Mary, we see God working through ordinary, imperfect lives to fulfil His promise of a King whose reign will never end. The genealogy reminds us that our faith is rooted in truth, that Jesus is the long-awaited Messiah and Saviour, and that just as surely as He came the first time, He will come again.
