In this focused review, we explore acute and chronic gastritis, including erosive and nonerosive forms. We break down pathophysiology related to COX inhibition, prostaglandin loss, H. pylori infection, NSAID use, alcohol exposure, and autoimmune causes. This episode reviews risk factors, clinical manifestations, diagnostic testing, medication management, nursing priorities, and complications such as gastric bleeding, gastric outlet obstruction, dehydration, and pernicious anemia. Emphasis is placed on recognizing signs of hemorrhage, understanding vitamin B12 deficiency related to intrinsic factor loss, and applying safe medication teaching. This review supports clinical judgment and exam preparation for nursing students caring for clients with inflammatory gastric disorders.
