    A young woman is living in a small Concord, New Hampshire apartment with her husband and their little boy. Their marriage is rocky, and he comes and goes often, leaving Judy alone with their toddler. During those stretches, she was said to have been uneasy and fearful, convinced someone might break in. Neighbors didn’t quite understand her worry until one summer day in 1975, when Judy was found dead inside her apartment. In the decades since, investigators have looked closely at several suspects, some of whom have since passed away. Yet nearly fifty years later, hope remains that modern technology might finally reveal the truth about who killed Judy.

    High in the mountains of northern New Mexico, overlooking the village of Questa, a father and his young daughter lived in the dream home he built with his own hands. Friends and neighbors knew him as the kind of man who always offered help and kept his door open to anyone in need. But that open door would one day invite in evil. In early September 1999, both he and his 9-year-old daughter were found murdered inside their home. Now, twenty-six years later, this brutal crime remains unsolved and is just one of several homicides haunting this small, tight-knit community. Investigators have long said that the biggest barrier in cases like these is that community members may know more than they are willing to share, held back by fear of retaliation. My hope in telling this story is that it might reignite the case in the mind of the right person, someone who can finally come forward with the information needed to bring justice for this father and daughter.

Her body is later found in a nearby ditch, and a witness claims they saw a man follow her into the woods. That’s the story I first read, and it’s the one most people believe. But in recent years, Donna’s cousins have worked to unravel the truth. And what they’ve uncovered shows that very little in this case is what it seems. They’ve tracked down old friends, spoken with locals and law enforcement, and carried out their own boots-on-the-ground investigation.

    One name that comes up repeatedly is one you may recognize from the Netflix documentary “Making A Murderer.” It’s a violent rapist who Donna was acquainted with and lived in the area at the time she was killed. For this episode, I sat down with three of Donna’s cousins, who share what they’ve learned and separate out fact from fiction. This year marks 50 years since her murder. And her family is not giving up because they believe the answers are still out there and that they are hidden in this small town.
