  • 052| Interview with Valerio Ventura
    Jan 26 2024

On this episode I am pleased to welcome to the show artist, designer, director, and author, Valerio Ventura!

Valerio's career in animation spans over 30 years but he is probably best known today for his work on the DC SUPER HERO GIRLS show, winning a Daytime Emmy in 2014 for his work on MICKEY MOUSE, and serving as the Art Director on two sesons of HBO Max' adult animated series, VELMA. Valerio took some time out of his busy post-production schedule to chat with me about his career, their design approach on VELMA, and his latest work, the 2023 novel, KILLHER - THE AKIRA FILES.

this podcast has been going strong since 2016 and I'm just finding out about it in 2023!! As a fan of Scooby Doo and many other Hanna Barbera cartoons, this podcast brings me back to my Saturday mornings as a kid sitting around the TV with some cereal, having no worries except what was on next. now as an adult and working as an animator, this podcast reminds me why I got into the industry in the first place. Each episode is just as inviting and exciting then the last. Getting that deep dive into the work that created my childhood is riveting. the special commentary episodes are so fun and it's not just about Scooby Doo either. Mike does a great job guiding the conversations and letting the guests talk about their time with Scooby Doo. You can really hear how much he truly cares about this property and the people behind it. This podcast is worth everybody's time that grew up with Hanna Barbera or has an interest in the workings behind the scenes.

Wish I found it sooner
