This sermon teaches that Jesus Christ is the most faithful friend anyone can have, even closer than a brother, because He has loved believers since before the world began and has never abandoned them through any trouble or hardship. Spurgeon explains that Christ's friendship is trustworthy because it's ancient (lasting forever), proven through suffering (He died on the cross), and not based on what we can give Him (He loved us when we had nothing to offer). He urges everyone listening to ask themselves if Jesus is their friend, warning that earthly friendships will fade but Christ's love lasts forever, and inviting sinners to trust in Jesus who offers free salvation to anyone who believes in Him.
A sermon delivered by Charles Spurgeon on March 8, 1857.
