God has A LOT to say about time as revealed in this study.
Time:
- Time was created by God; it is not eternal (Gen. 1:1). We are accountable for our time.
- God recognizes time, but He is outside of time (“everlasting to everlasting”), Ps. 90:2.
- Time always moves forward; missed opportunities cannot be reclaimed (Eph. 5:16).
- God has the ability to “speed up time” (Isa. 60:22).
- God can “shorten time” for mercy (Mt. 24:22).
- If something seems slow, we need to “wait for it” (Hab. 2:3).
- Regardless of how long we live, our time is brief (Ps. 144:4 – man is like a “breath”).
- The way we use our time reveals our heart (Mt. 6:21 – Where your treasure is …”).
- Time also tests our faith (Lk. 8:13 – some “believed for a while”). Temp faith does not save.
- Time is also able to reveal our love (Jn. 13:1 – Jesus loved them to the end).
- Time will often reveal hypocrisy (Mt. 13:21 – when tribulation arises).
- Time often helps separate emotion from conviction.
- Part of our time needs to be used for repentance (2 Pet. 3:9). Delays is mercy, not permission.
- Using time to delay can harden the heart (Heb. 3:15).
- Spiritual decline can happen with the passing of time (Heb. 2:1).
- Lamps went out (Mt. 25:8) – readiness must be maintained.
- People can forget God if enough time passes (Deut. 6:12).
- Isaiah (55:6) said: Seek the Lord while He can be found; opportunity has an expiration date.
- There will be a “time for us to die” (Heb. 9:27). The date is unknown but scheduled.
- Before it is time to die, we suffer for a time. Long roads can built strong saints (Rom. 5:3-4).
- God uses time to unfold His promises (“the fulness of time”), Gal. 4:4. God is never late.
- When Jesus came to earth, He lived under time constraints (Jn. 9:4). Urgency part of godliness.
- God has often worked through waiting (Isa. 40:31 – those who “wait upon the Lord”).
- Impatience can bring about bad or less than ideal results (1 Sam. 13:11-14).
- Jesus did not rush things – waited for the appropriate time (Jn. 7:6).
- God allows people to have time to grow (2 Pet. 3:18).
- Deity knows time shapes character (“be transformed,” Rom. 12:2). Like compound interest.
- Time does not cause God to forget unforgiven sins (Isa. 59:12 – sins “testify”).
- Time also does not cause God to forget what is according to His will (Heb. 6:10).
- Time warns us old age is coming (Eccl. 12:1). Don’t delay obedience till strength is gone.
- Many are focused on “tomorrow” – that time may not come – Prov. 27:1 – don’t boast about tomorr.
- Sin wastes time and a lot of regret has followed “seasons of sin.”
- Repentance can right a wrong course, but it can never recover lost time.
- Time magnifies habits (Gal. 6:7-8). Small patterns often become big outcomes.
- Time can stimulate sin (Heb. 12:15 – root of bitterness).
- Part of our time needs to be used to adhere to the truth (Acts 17:11). Trends fade; truth remains.
- Time can help establish credibility (1 Tim. 3:6).
- God can time the exaltation of people (1 Pet. 5:6).
- Time is not merely something we spend—it is something God will evaluate
- If God evaluate our time usage, what would we defend and what would we hide?
- If our life ended today, would our use of time testify for or against us in God’s sight?
