Welcome to the Autism Parent Club Podcast!
Are you parenting a child with profound autism or navigating life with a non-verbal teen who requires 24/7 care? You’ve found your people.
We’re Chris and Becky—parents to an 18-year-old son diagnosed with Level 3 autism, sometimes referred to as severe or profound autism. Each week, we share real-life stories from our journey parenting a child with high support needs, including sensory challenges, communication barriers, meltdowns, medical visits, and meaningful milestones.
In this episode:
In this episode, we’re talking about what keeps autism parents up at night—and spoiler alert, it's not always your kiddo who struggles to sleep. While we do touch on the very real sleep struggles that can come with raising a child with autism, this conversation goes deeper into the mental and emotional load so many autism parents carry. From racing thoughts and parenting anxiety to worries about the future and the constant feeling of “am I doing this right?”, we share the kinds of stressful thoughts that can make it hard to rest even when our kids are finally asleep. We also talk about simple, supportive strategies that have helped us, like focusing on the next best step instead of trying to solve everything at once, and giving your brain a place to land by setting aside time to think through concerns later. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, exhausted, or stuck in overthinking as an autism parent, this episode will help you feel seen—and remind you that you’re not alone.
