Our creativity is medicine. It's sacred and it's power, and yet often without us noticing patriarchy gets its hands on it not only telling us what counts as beautiful, what's too angry, what's just too much, but by seeping into our lives in such a way as to make us create things that are about our oppression or trauma instead of what's in our hearts.

That's how it gets into our creativity without us knowing, here's a deeper thought that really stings a little - there are greater stories we might tell if we weren't busy surviving and calling out our traumas or abuses. Whole forms of art we haven't invented yet because so much of our time as women or any oppressed minority goes to tending the bruises that we have.
