38. What's your excuse? With Special Guests Sean Fong and Karen Naisoro.

  • Resumen

  • In this special episode of The GI Spot Podcast, hosts Rachael Bradshaw and Kaz Page sit down with Sean Fong and Karen Naisoro, two remarkable figures in the Australian Jiu Jitsu community. More than just accomplished athletes, Sean and Karen embody the essence of dedication, resilience, and mutual support, both on and off the mats.

Both brown belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Sean and Karen have competed on some of the biggest international stages, showcasing their technical skills and competitive spirit. But their influence in the sport extends far beyond competition. As passionate and dedicated coaches, they are committed to raising the standard of Jiu Jitsu in Australia, mentoring the next generation of athletes and fostering a culture of excellence.

However, their story doesn’t stop at Jiu Jitsu. Sean Fong is not only a decorated martial artist but also an elite athlete who has proudly represented his adopted country, Australia, in competitive swimming. His journey of discipline and perseverance has led him to a successful career as a motivational speaker, where he inspires others to push past their limits and embrace their full potential.

For many, the dream is to chase success in the fast-paced environment of a major city. But for Sean and Karen, success meant something different. The couple made the life-changing decision to leave the hustle and bustle of Sydney, choosing instead to build a life in regional Mudgee, NSW—a move that was fueled by their shared vision for the future.

Here, they are not only raising their beautiful daughter, Mana, but, have, also found a much loved home for their training, developing their already high level of proficiency with Aspire MMA Mudgee, under Head Coach and Owner, UFC athlete Richie Walsh, helping to develop high-level Jiu Jitsu in regional Australia. Through their coaching, mentorship, and community-driven mindset, they are helping grow the sport in areas where access to elite-level training has traditionally been limited.

At the heart of their journey is a deep commitment to each other’s dreams. Sean and Karen’s relationship is a testament to what it means to truly support one another—not just in competition but in life’s biggest decisions and challenges. Whether navigating the demands of elite sports, building a business, raising a family, or making bold career moves, they do it together—with unwavering belief in each other’s success.

Their story is one of love, connection, and overcoming adversity. It’s about setting the gold standard for couples who want to pursue their passions while lifting each other up along the way.

Join us as we dive into their inspiring journey, exploring the sacrifices, victories, and lessons learned along the way.
