How can a good God allow suffering? This is a common question posed by skeptics to the Christian faith, and - more painfully - by believers, when they're facing some acute suffering.

But in John 11, we are confronted with a most surprising story - that deals with this very question. There is a family who we know Jesus was intimately connected to. He loved them! But when He learns that one of them is sick (and dying!), He is not quick to come to the rescue.
