  • Quest #20: Illuminating Ivan Illich, with Dougald Hine and Sajay Samuel
    Jan 15 2026

Welcome to 3 Brothers Quest #20!

    QUEST GUESTS

Meet Sajay Samuel and Dougald Hine, who have spent their professional lives (among many other projects) illuminating the work of Ivan Illich. Austrian Catholic priest, author, philosopher, teacher, and social critic, Illich described himself as an “errant pilgrim,” and advocated for a radical reconceptualization of civilization in an age of dehumanization brought on by modern systems, suggesting a return to small scale values – tools, friendship, family, community, and the uniqueness of each human as an embodied being. Our three-way conversation explores Illich’s legacy, and considers Illich’s approach as a teacher, his emphasis on tools over systems, his critique of Christianity as a devout Christian, and his call for genuine friendship in an impersonal age dominated by Rules and Systems. Afterwards, join the Baldwin brothers – Ian, Michael, and Philip – for their fraternal reflections on this 3 Brothers Quest episode.

    QUEST MAP

Widely considered one of the 20th century's most vital yet underappreciated philosophers, Ivan Illich’s legacy can be found in his wide-ranging critiques of modern institutions, including institutionalized “health care,” “public schools,” and organized religion. Illich called for dismantling pervasive and impersonal institutional bureaucracies in favor of a more decentralized, small scale, human-centered existence, and promoted what he called “conviviality” – tools for self-reliance, community, and friendship – as well as playfully advocating for “sober drunkenness” and a radical reorientation towards living as unique and sovereign embodied beings, rather than rule-bound subjects of impersonal systems.

  • Quest #19: Seeking Rudolf Steiner, with Mark Finser and John Bloom
    Nov 12 2025

Welcome to 3 Brothers Quest #19!

    QUEST GUESTS

Meet Mark Finser and John Bloom, who have spent their professional lives diving deep into the world of Anthroposophy and Rudolf Steiner. Building on episode #12, our first Steiner conversation, our second exploration of Steiner explores his notions of the Luciferic and Ahrimanic, and a third balancing force - the Christ - marked by what Steiner called the mystery of Golgotha. We also consider human spiritual evolution, and the emerging influence of “Artificial Intelligence” on human destiny. Afterwards, join the Baldwin brothers – Ian, Michael, and Philip – for their fraternal reflections on this 3 Brothers Quest episode.

    QUEST MAP

Widely considered one of the 20th century's most vital and important philosophers, Steiner left myriad legacies, including the Anthroposophical Society in America, and made pioneering contributions in the fields of education, agriculture, architecture, literature, philosophy, and spiritual teaching. Steiner believed that humans once participated more fully in spiritual processes of the world through a dreamlike consciousness, but have, in modern materialistic times, become restricted by their attachment to material things. The renewed perception of spirituality, Steiner believed, required training the human consciousness to rediscover the spiritual dimensions of reality."

  • Quest Autumn 2025 Reflections: Ian, Michael, and Philip Baldwin
    Oct 31 2025

    Welcome to 3 Brothers Quest!

Join the Baldwin Brothers – Ian, Michael and Philip – as together and in person from a Vermont kitchen table, they reflect on 3BQ’s origins and meta themes, sharing their own journeys that brought them together for this project. Listen in as they pose fundamental questions about humanity’s mysterious origins story, exploring the search for meaning, the tension between the “rational” and the “intuitive,” what it means to be a “human being,” the illusory nature of “progress,” how we move to replace “cruelty” with “kindness” and “compassion,” and the promises and perils of our future in an age of AI and transhumanism.

  • Quest #18: Skies Afire, with Mauro Biglino
    Oct 23 2025

Welcome to 3 Brothers Quest #18!

    QUEST GUEST

Meet Mauro Biglino, an Italian linguist and Biblical scholar whose three English translated books exploring a literal interpretation of the Bible - “Gods Of the Bible: A New Interpretation of the Bible Reveals the Oldest Secret in History,” “The Naked Bible: The truth About the Most Famous Book In History,” and “Jesus Demigod” - suggest new possibilities for making sense of human history’s signal most famous book. In his new book, “Skies Afire: War, Machines, and Technology in the Ancient Texts,” co-authored with Swiss pioneer Erich von Daniken, Biglino explores what literal interpretations of ancient texts like the Bible, the Dogon, and the Upanishads reveal about the deep human past. Afterwards, join the Baldwin brothers – Ian, Michael, and Philip – for their fraternal reflections on this 3 Brothers Quest episode.

    QUEST MAP

“I translate the Bible and other ancient texts faithfully, looking for open questions to discuss with you all,” explains Mauro Biglino, whose collected work offers “a new key to understanding our origins.” Visit https://www.maurobiglino.com/en/ for more resources and information to continue your quest.

  • Quest #17: Considering Consciousness, with Marjorie Woollacott
    Oct 18 2025

Welcome to 3 Brothers Quest #17!

    QUEST GUEST

“What if Consciousness is the essence of the universe?” This question catalyzes neuroscientist, researcher, and author Dr. Marjorie Woollacott’s pioneering work.

Marjorie Woollacott, Ph.D., is an Emeritus Professor and prior chair of the Dept. of Human Physiology, and member of the Institute of Neuroscience at the University of Oregon. She has taught courses in neuroscience and rehabilitation, as well programs in complementary medicine and meditation. She is President of the Academy for the Advancement of Post-Materialist Sciences (AAPS), Research Director for the International Association of Near-Death Studies (IANDS), and Co-Director of the Galileo Commission, a part of the Scientific and Medical Network (SMN). Woollacott has published more than 200 scientific articles and written or co-edited eight books. She is the co-author, with Dr. Anne Shumway-Cook of the textbook for health care professionals, titled: Motor Control: Translating Research into Clinical Practice, in its 6th edition (2021). Her latest book, Infinite Awareness: The Awakening Of A Scientific Mind (2015) (winner of eight awards, including the 2017 Parapsychological Association Book Award, Eric Hoffer Book Award and the Nautilus Book Award) pairs Woollacott’s research as a neuroscientist with her self-revelations about the mind’s spiritual power, and it is this book that is the focus of our first conversation with her. Afterwards, join the Baldwin brothers – Ian, Michael, and Philip – for their fraternal reflections on this 3 Brothers Quest episode.

    QUEST MAP

Marjorie Woollacott’s web site offers a wealth of texts for exploring the relationship among science, consciousness, meditation, spirituality, and near-death experiences (NDEs) as well as providing resources to explore a host of related topics. Between the scientific and spiritual worlds, she breaks open the definition of human consciousness to investigate the existence of a non-physical and infinitely powerful mind. Oct 18 2025

Welcome to 3 Brothers Quest #16!

    QUEST GUEST

Enjoy our 2nd conversation with Paul Levy about Wetiko and how we might “awaken from the nightmare mind virus.” Find our first conversation via our 3BQ channels, in which we explore the relationship between Spirituality and Quantum Physics in the second edition of Levy’s book “The Quantum Revelation: A Radical Synthesis Of Science And Spirituality.” A pioneer in the field of spiritual emergence, Paul Levy describes himself as “a wounded healer in private practice,” helping others who are also awakening to the dreamlike nature of reality. A Tibetan Buddhist practitioner for over 30 years, Levy has intimately studied with some of the greatest spiritual masters of Tibet and Burma, and served as the coordinator of the Portland chapter of the Padma Sambhava Buddhist Center for more than two decades. twenty years. G. Jung. The insights that Paul Levy shares in his work “have emerged from hard-won experience of a many-year long ordeal which amounted to a shamanic descent into the dark depths of the underworld of the unconscious individual and collective psyche.” Visit https://www.awakeninthedream.com for more information and resources.

  • Quest #15: Reimagining DNA and Human History, with Jeremy Narby
    Jun 7 2025

    QUEST GUEST

Enjoy our first 3BQ conversation with Jeremy Narby here.

Author of “The Cosmic Serpent: DNA and the Origins of Knowledge,” “Intelligence in Nature,” and co-editor of Shamans Through Time (with Francis Huxley), Jeremy Narby is an anthropologist who has been working as Amazonian Projects Coordinator for the Swiss NGO “Nouvelle Planète” since 1990. “I began working as an activist and fundraiser for Indigenous initiatives in the Amazon, and as an independent anthropologist I also tried to make sense of the Amazonian point of view. So this led me some 25 years ago to start looking into domains like biology, botany, and neurology. At the time it was already clear that biology confirms human kinship with other species and that all living beings are genetically related. Scientists were starting to document intelligent behavior in all kinds of living organisms. The more science looked at the intricacies of the natural world, the more intelligence it seemed to find. This encouraged me to look into intelligence in nature, a subject that concerned both science and Indigenous knowledge. In the early 2000s, I interviewed scientists in different countries who were working on this subject, only to find that there was a basic problem with words.” Afterwards, join the Baldwin brothers – Ian, Michael, and Philip – for their fraternal reflections on this 3 Brothers Quest episode.

    QUEST MAP

Jeremy Narby does not have a web site, but his books and thinking is easily accessed via the Internet. We suggest beginning your quest with a reading of his mind-expanding book “The Cosmic Serpent: DNA and the Origins of Knowledge.”
