The exchange escalated when Rivers felt provoked by Craven Antao's questions and interruptions, leading Rivers to physically strike the reporter in the face. Craven Antao sustained a black eye, required stitches, and claims to have psychological distress following the assault. Rivers publicly apologized for the incident but claimed she was provoked by Craven Antao's "antagonistic" behavior during the interview. She accused the reporter of editing the footage to exclude moments leading up to the altercation. Craven Antao reported the assault to the police, and while no arrests have been made as of April 5, investigations are ongoing.
