पुराने दौर के संगीत और उसकी रवायत पर पर्दा उठाने की तरह है यतीन्द्र मिश्र की यह किताब। हर्फ़ का यह दस्तावेज़ अख़्तरीबाई फैज़ाबादी की जिंदगी और संगीत पर आधारित है जिसमें अवध की ढेरों रोशन महफ़िलें और उनकी शामें धड़कती हैं, जिसमें एक अदाकारा का अतीत, इतिहास के पन्नों से निकलकर उस समय की नुमाइन्दगी करता है। जिसने ठुमरी और दादर के अलावा ग़ज़ल की सबसे नामी शख़्सियत अख़्तरीबाई फैज़ाबादी या बेगम अख्तर का मोहक किरदार गढ़ा है।
