25TH DECEMBER CHRISTMAS DAY

(Is 52:7-10; Ps 98; Heb. 1:1-6; Jn. 1:1-18)

Theme: He Entered Our World, the King of Glory

In one of his reflections, Archbishop Fulton Sheen observed that our Lord Jesus Christ was born within time and became human to restore our fractured nature and to reestablish fellowship with God. And so, our Redeemer, the Word, the Son of the Father, and our Sanctifier, entered the world, dwelt among us, reconciled us with the Father, and showed us the path to salvation.

It may be stated that the presence of the Lord in our lives has diminished the influence of sin and death. Accordingly, Isaiah's prophecy, as referenced in the first reading, is considered fulfilled; we have not only witnessed God's salvation but also observed demonstrations of divine mercy, love, and faithfulness that strengthen our resolve against regressive ideologies.

It is the Lord’s doing, for He has the power to speak and guide those who listen to Him, particularly those truly reborn in Christ and striving to secure spots in God’s house.

We can secure our positions in God’s house because we have been purified and, through Christ, we have an enduring relationship with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Thus, Christmas reminds us of our connection with the Trinity, guarded by our Mediator before the Father.

Therefore, as God’s children, we can ask our Mediator, the Incarnated One, for support and graces for our well-being. But, first, we must be willing to offer up our human nature for sanctification, perfecting the control and elimination of impulses of self-satisfaction, pride, fear of the truth, and fear of death.

On this Christmas Day, let us transcend our comfort zones to express gratitude to the Incarnate One, who grants us wisdom for good character, truth for a life of integrity, faith for spiritual security, love for the well-being of others, and mercy for the courage to pursue our salvation and to support others in their belief in God’s proactive care.
