  • The Story Behind: Blur - Parklife, Ep 228
    Sep 29 2025

Musicians recount the strange and unexpected story behind the making of your favorite albums. Blur were London's answer to the Madchester movement up north but grew into Brit-Pop force to be reckoned with (or competed against) in the charts after Parklife became a hit. The fellows welcome a very special first time guest and discuss bellends, geezers, and being knackered in the village green.

  • The Story Behind: Paul McCartney and Wings - Band on the Run, Ep 227
    Sep 22 2025

Musicians recount the strange and unexpected story behind the making of your favorite albums. Paul McCartney was feeling left behind by his ex-bandmates' solo careers and dealing with an ever-shifting roster of players in his new band when he decided to head for the tropics of Lagos, Nigeria to record his next album. Things only got wilder from there. The gang get together to talk about Linda's high notes, stringing different songs together, and how Fela Kuti felt about the first 60s pop star to come to his homeland.

  • The Story Behind: Sonic Youth - Evol, Ep 226
    Sep 15 2025

Musicians recount the strange and unexpected story behind the making of your favorite albums. Sonic Youth set out to reinvent rock music by merging avant garde art world ideas with noisy guitars. By doing so they set a template for indie bands that came after them. The guys welcome a special guest and talk about prepared instruments, car crashes, and Ferris Bueller.

for a person who podcasts so obsessively that she basically has an IV drip of daily content, this show has been a delight and a relief to listen to. the crew deconstructs and reconstructs milestone albums through a cultural lens in dialogue that is easy, natural and smart. the content is well-researched; the hosts draw on their academic understanding and personal experiences playing music for commentary on extant work that is salient, stimulating and frequently novel. the real joy is that the "smart stuff" does not make their conversations inaccessible; the podcasts' approach is a satisfying balance of tomfooling amongst a buncha goons who get a kick out of being together, and reliable, interesting historical and musical analysis.

give it a shot. start with an episode on an album you know well (whether you love it or hate it) rather than trying a chronological exploration. the result is likely to be gratifying. ❤️

humor meets intellect and experience for a WIN ❤️

These guys are fantastic. They know more than a little about music and are funny to boot. Look forward to Mondays because of this podcast. Keep up the great work.

This Podcast ROCKS!

I like the podcast..I do find the guys a little blinkered in the way they approach some of the albums and as artists themselves a bit to quick to attack the albums that don't fit in to their preferred genres of music... but on a whole a fun listen

not in total agreement with them

They complain and make fun of music, while sounding like they know something about what they're talking about, and they get away with it because they're talking to a younger less informed audience. If your a boomer, you'll hate the show, They're musicians, so you have your basic rock talk. They do make some funny references, but they should stick to their own music. Panning Surealistic Pillow by a guy who's favorite band is Rush says it all. Again it's a comedy show.

It's a comedy show!!
