In this 1916 memoir, Dittenhoefer, a key player in Lincolns 1860 and 1864 campaigns, shares his personal experiences of the legendary president and the historic political landscape of the time. As a young man, Dittenhoefer campaigned for Lincoln and later became an elector in the 1864 presidential election. Born to German immigrants in Charleston, South Carolina, he moved to New York City and built an illustrious career as a judge and lawyer.
