In this episode, Pediatric Nursing Journal Editor Dr. Tedra Smith, talks with Renee Bloom, a NICU RN Unit Supervisor at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia, about her article published in the May/June 2025 issue titled “The Impact of Infant-Driven Feeding on Breastfeeding and Premature Infant Outcomes.”

Ms. Bloom shares how her team implemented infant-driven feeding, the patient story that inspired the study, and the improvements seen in earlier discharges, stronger breastfeeding outcomes, and more positive feeding experiences. Bloom also explains how shifting to a cue-based approach empowers families and supports healthier long-term outcomes for premature infants.

Tedra Smith, DNP, CRNP, CPNP-PC, CNE, CHSE, is a Professor and the Interim Assistant Dean for Graduate Clinical Education at The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing and serves as the Editor of the Pediatric Nursing Journal.
