In 1520, during the early days of the Reformation, Martin Luther crafted a trilogy of pivotal texts directed at the German Nobility, the Church, and the Christian community. The first of these, To the Christian Nobility, boldly confronts the three barriers that the papacy has erected to shield itself from reform. Luther goes on to highlight three critical issues that require the attention of a council and presents 27 essential proposals for the reformation of Christendom.
