Resumen del Editor

Richard O'Malley is a hard-working Boston reporter in the years following the Civil War. He is fascinated by tales of the Wild West and the colorful frontiersmen who are taming it. None captivate him more than the stories of the Dead Sheriff; a dedicated lawman who had risen from the grave to continue his mission. Taking his life savings, O'Malley embarks on a personal quest to find this mythical figure and chronicle his exploits. What he finds will make them both legends. Airship 27 Productions is thrilled to bring pulp fans Mark Justice's most original creation in this new, expanded edition; the first of a brand new series starring the Dead Sheriff!

Entertaining western-horror-pulp fiction

This was a very entertaining book and it kept me engrossed from the beginning to the end. I've read other "Dead Sheriff" books, and while this one was not my favorite, it was still very good. I've discovered (through these books) that I really like pulp fiction. This book blends the genres of pulp fiction, westerns, and horror. I listened to the Audible audio edition narrated by J. Scott Bennett, and I just love when he narrates westerns. His voice is perfect for it and he just makes the story come alive. If you like pulp fiction, give this book a try. You won't be disappointed.

Great pulp western

This pulp western type novel kept me entertained from start to finish. Set in the “Wild West” an unassuming, city reporter ventures out to the frontier towns in search of a vigilante known as the Dead Sheriff. Having said to have 'risen from the grave', the spectral lawman roamed from town to town, along with his Indian sidekick, imposing his deadly brand of justice. The intrepid reporter gets much more than he bargained for when he too faces some unsavory characters and discovers the truth of the Dead Sheriff. Scott Bennett does a great job of the narration, making the sheriff truly spooky and bringing the characters and story to life. This is an entertaining blend of the old west, horror and generous sprinkling of supernatural

Joe R. Landsdale is sooo Jealous of this book

Man, talk about a fun book. This takes all the fun of zombies, rogue lawmen, the weird west, and comeuppance and slams them in a blender and the tasty pulpy mass that it produces just sets your senses a'tingle. This book is kind of a masup up of Brother Bones (another excellent series) and the Lone Ranger. It is a weird Western, and if you have ever read anything about the weird west you may know the name of Joe R. Landsdale. He has written numerous tales set in a strange western wasteland where horror comes in numerous forms, and this story would fit right in there.

What you have is a reporter who goes in search of (not the Nimoy series) a legendary undead lawman who is unstoppable and relentless in his pursuit of the bad men of the west. The revanent calls out to him, and what he finds might just shock and surprise you. The book does have an undead fella who has no problem filling people with lead, so expect some shoot outs and headshots!

The Story is narrated by J. Scott Campbell, who also narrates the aforementioned Brother Bones books. The man is amazing and has elevated every story that he has been a part of, and that is certainly the case here. He really infuses the story with the proper atmosphere. You can feel the tumbleweeds rolling by, and hear the vultures as they circle overhead. What can I say? The man is a consummate professional. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Different

I started this book thinking it was going to be a normal zombie book, but normal is not what this book is. This book had a zombie with a twist. I started thinking wow, if we had more zomvies like this one then the world would never survive. Humans would be obsolete because these zombies will never be put down, kind of scary to think about. Makes you hope that if we ever have zombies that we have normal ones. The author did a great job with this book and changing up expectations and character building. The narrator was able to bring the characters to life and make some moments truely funny.
