"Surely, you are a bridegroom of blood to me..."

Zipporah, the eldest daughter of a priest of Midian, grew up well-versed in the ways of the Old God, El-Shaddai. She knew Him as a God of blood, of death, of wrath. She wanted no part of His covenant, a covenant she considered barbaric and brutal. In fact, she wanted nothing to with any of the gods created by fearful men. Her everyday life of drawing water from her father’s well with her sisters, was perfectly fine for her.
But one day, drawing water became impossible thanks to rough and savage men, men who did not care for her father’s claim. And just like He had with her ancient kinswomen Rebekah, Rachel, and Leah, El-Shaddai shattered Zipporah’s plans by sending her future husband -an Egyptian Hebrew named Moshem- to make a dramatic entrance at the well.
Zipporah could learn to love a Hebrew, especially one who was as strong and brave as Moshem ben-Amram. But could she learn to love a God who required the flesh of her sons as a mark of covenant?
