Villains exists, but not given undue attention. Not only the children need healing from their parents' vicious divorce, plus the steady onslaught suffered from their vindictively angry bio-mom, but all the adults here need comfort and understanding as well.
This saga, actually a spiritual memoir, seems more like a character-driven novel with its fast paced action. Joy, sorrow, anger, acceptance, hate, love - like any other family's experiences - this inspiring story doesn't get stuck in sadness or vengeance.
