Resumen del Editor

Sick of being told when you can take a bathroom break?

Is your day job bringing you down? Do you wish you could join the ranks of freelance writers but just don't believe it's possible? Maybe you're retired, but you hate the idea of being a Walmart greeter. Maybe you're a stay-at-home mom who wants to make some cash while the kids are at school. Or maybe you've just always had a knack for writing and wonder if you could do it for a living. If you've ever dreamed of starting a career as a freelance writer, there's no better time than now. But how do you start? Isn't it scary to take that leap?

Can you really make money as a writer?

The short answer is yes. But where do you find clients? Do you have to have a niche? What is it really going to take to make this new career path work? You could take the hard road and figure things out along the way, wasting a lot of time in the process while you scramble to get all your ducks in a row. Or you could hire a coach so you know exactly what to do to start your writing career on the right foot...but only if you have thousands of dollars to spend. Is there a third option that saves you time and money in your quest to write for a living?

Write well? Get paid well.

Yes! Susan Anderson's You Write, They Pay gives freelance writers (and wannabe freelance writers) the tools to get their writing careers going and the money rolling in now. You'll learn:

  • How to approach projects when you don't think you know anything about the topic

Timely and On Target

This book answered questions I had about finding clients. Susan was also honest about the various ways to get into writing. Great narration.

Thorough, modern overview & capable how-to

Highly Recommend! This book is a work horse, giving a thorough overview of types of writing projects in this growing field, how to land clients, and even what to do when your docket has reached max capacity.

This author is a mom (like me) and that’s why she got into this business, and I appreciated most how she touched on that connection point without droning in about typical mom stuff like constant competing demands on our time, etc...

I have read a lot of similar books (would also recommend Robert Bly for books on becoming a copywriter) and the thing I love most about this one is that Susan Anderson is not about wasting whole chapters asking fluffy questions like, “Are you emotionally prepared for success?” “Do you have a dedicated writing or business space to work in that inspires you?” “Do you know how to operate a phone / email system / blog / etc.” “Can you communicate in a reasonably professional or at least pleasant manner with clients and potential clients?” Duh! Right?

This author skips all that an assumes the modern reader is ready to game, saving you time and space on the pages. She cuts to the meat of the matter of how to make money writing in a practical, realistic way.

My favorite part of this book is when she talks about becoming your own client ;) that was something I hadn’t considered in that way before and it was a little inspiring without being cheezy.

Fair warning: there were of course a few plugs for her other books and educational products / courses. Plugging is to be expected with books like this (part of the sales funnel system she discusses) and I’d say she plugs in a tasteful, minimalistic way and saves the big plugs for the end.

She wrote this so well I might actually consider taking a course from her program but I’ll start with the info she provides here to see if I can succeed with that first.

Perfect if an overview is what you are looking for

GREAT overview of the business and possibilities, and worth the money, I just was not aware that it was more of an overview rather than the expected how-to book. At the end of this book, she referenced more by her of the how-to... so I'm off to her website to buy more (guess that was the point of this book) and hope it pays off :) great marketing tactic, worked for me!
