J.R. Hamantaschen, a name synonymous with groundbreaking underground horror, returns with his latest collection.

Channeling the essence of horror legends like H.P. Lovecraft, Thomas Ligotti, Clive Barker, T.E.D. Klein, and Dennis Etchison, this collection cements his status as a master storyteller in the realm of dark fiction, blending nihilism, the grotesque, and the philosophical in a way that only he can.

Maybe I'm just interpreting "nihilism" differently, but almost every story I got through was heavy on suicide being a major plot point. Without, imho, any real consideration or actual commentary on suicidal ideation. It felt slap-dash and unnecessary.

There was really no "cosmic horror" or grotesquery, just some sad-sap stories that I felt like I got tricked into listening to. Clearly I am missing something with this author, since it seems like people enjoy their work. I might try another short story or two before writing them off completely, but certainly not from this collection. DNF and returned.

Narrator was good :)
