Wolf Creek Has Made a Convert of Me

Though western is not usually my genre of choice when selecting a new book to read, Ed Stowers has made a convert of me with his novel Wolf Creek. A good story captures the reader’s attention from the start, and this one ensnared me from the very first scene. Its Colorado high country setting is a refreshing change from the cliché desert scenes so often depicted in westerns, and it immediately made me long for the Rocky Mountains. Stowers’s written imagery draws the reader into the story so vividly as to almost smell the pines and the saddle leather. Joseph Earl Johnson (whose voice reminds me of Sam Elliott) is one of the best narrators I’ve ever heard; and this story is made all the more realistic through his first-person depiction of former lawman Mace Gentry, through whose experiences the story unfolds. The characters are well-developed and complex, giving the reader a personal connection to them. Interwoven with this engaging storyline are historical vignettes of modern-day Colorado towns and geographical locations, which I consider an added bonus. This book was difficult to put down for my eagerness to know what happens next. If you’re a fan of westerns, you’ll love this story. If you, like me, have never considered yourself a real western fan, this one will make a convert of you too.

Never thought I could be a fan of a Western

The author, Ed Stowers, is my brother in law. I had heard about the extent of research he does when writing his books. I didn’t think the genre was for me, but I’m now a fan!
As I listen to the story, I was in awe with the detail and I know it’s all accurate for the period.
Joseph, the narrator put on a wonderful performance. I hope there are plans to turn more of Ed’s books into audio! But I think that’s a ways off, so I’ll be finding myself reading Ed’s other books.

Old School Western Louis L'Amour style

This read was totally refreshing and enthralling from beginning to end. I love a good Western, and this is a good Western. Ed Stowers and Joseph Johnson( Narrator) have a chemistry that seems to lend itself to sucking you into the book; hated it to end, good.
Hoping to hear more from this combination of Author and Narrator.
If you love Westerns then you'll love Wolf Creek. Can't say more than that without tipping over the spoiler pot.
