This is the second volume of Visigothic: Wizards and Kings, known as Epic One and Epic Two, and as such is part of the second book in the series. Book two is published in two separate volumes.
Taking up where the first volume ended, Sigmund the Volsung and Eileza Andavarsdottir, young thirteen year old teenagers are still on their own, having run away from home in order to be together, and not be forced to marry others for the sake of political alliances.
The Guardians of Midgard have come together and are moving their armies east to confront the tyranny of Hister's Midgard Empire. The queen is pregnant and the forces of the dark side are determined to slay both her and the child, for they know that the child is a messiah that will be their undoing.
The hordes of hell are unleashed as Dithranti and his people are forced to divert into the haunted forest of Myrkvidr and battle the vampires of Lothar the Defiler, in order to save a child named Giorsal Ryyderch, who was abducted twenty years ago and forced to become a vampire, each night going out in search of blood and in her torment, letting out the primal scream.
The wizards must find her before it is too late for her to be resurrected, and if she can be restored, can she ever hope to recover? The great winter war then comes as the titanic clash between good and evil lets loose with all its fury, a battle led by wizards and kings for the salvation of the world.
