Resumen del Editor

There’s nothing more destructive in this world than a child losing hope. All thoughts of love and protection vanish like a bug hitting a bloodstained windshield. The only thing left is smeared dreams and broken wings.

I was taught that from a very early age that children should be only seen but are never allowed to speak unless they are told to speak. Seen, but not heard. These words resonated with me for years and years. Until, one day, I became so isolated from the real world I forgot how to connect with anyone.

But, one day, one fateful day, I was shown that if you look through the darkness, there is a light. A bold, bright light that can shine so beautifully at the end. My story is certainly not a fairy tale. It’s not a Cinderella story where she goes to a ball and meets her Prince Charming, moves into a glamorous castle, and they live happily ever after. No, this is the story of how one sees the unthinkable and experiences the unimaginable and learns what love truly is.

Now, if you’re prepared to listen to my story, a ghost story, then sit back, turn the lights down, and step inside my world where monsters hide and dreams are broken and resurrected.

If You Look Through the Darkness There is a Light

This was an emotional story that really pulled at my heart strings. As a father of a daughter, it just broke my heart hearing how Mary Jane’s family treated her. The emotional and physical horror brought to someone who just wanted to enjoy being a child, attend school, and make friends was truly terrifying. There is a slight silver lining with this story, however it is one in disguise. If you want some horrific psychological horror wrapped up in a wonderfully told story, look no further. The writing was absolutely great and really hits you hard.

Amanda Friday did an excellent job with the narration. Her accent is great and so are all the character voices she uses. Her narration definitely helps set the tone of the story.

Sad, depressing tale of Mary Jane's short life...

Withering Bones, Book 2 in The Deadwood Series by Karli Rush was completely not what I expected. I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't what I got. Now, I'll say that Withering Bones was a well put together story as far as the writing goes, though it was utterly depressing from the very beginning. You really feel terrible for Mary Jane. Poor thing didn't stand a chance. The ghost story description in the summary didn't really resonate with me until the very end of the story. I don't know, it just wasn't for me and I felt that the ending was a bit abrupt.

Amanda Friday did a great job narrating this tale. Her voice and accent fit my impression of Mary Jane perfectly and she brought life to the characters. I would definitely listen to more books narrated by Ms. Friday. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.
