Of the many myths that emerged following the end of the Korean War, the prevailing one in the West was that of the absolute supremacy of US Air Force pilots and aircraft over their Soviet-supplied opponents. The claims of the 10:1 victory-loss ratio achieved by the US Air Force fighter pilots flying the North American F-86 Sabre against their communist adversaries, amongst other such fabrications, went unchallenged until the end of the Cold War, when Soviet records of the conflict were finally opened. From that point onwards, a very different story began to emerge.

Air Force navigators and bombardiers have long labored under the shadow of pilots - their contributions undervalued, misunderstood, or unknown to the general public. This was especially the case with the non-pilot officer aircrew in the Vietnam and Cold War-era B-52 Stratofortress. Of the six people who operated the bomber, three wore navigator wings - two of those men were also bombardiers, the other an electronic warfare officer. The Narrator makes this a tough listen.
The story is good enough but the narrator constantly mispronounces things, especially in the last parts of the book. Tired maybe? To call Davis - Monthan AFB, Davis-Monmouth is one example. In a technical book that has lots of acronyms this could be confusing of you had flown in the F-15. One example is the referral of CAS as the individual letter C.A.S. versus CAS which is how we say it , pronounces kass. Or we say Close Air Support which would be less confusing for a listener with no tactical fighter experience or a glossary in front of them .

Comprehensive and Encompassing
it only took me a few trips over a couple days to finish this. I never wanted to pause/stop it. This is exactly my type of book. I love reading about real life events told by those with first-hand knowledge, or close enough to. The F-15(A,B,C,D,E,EX) is my favorite aircraft of all time. Mike is a phenomenal writer and knows how to keep you engaged while also staying true to events as they happened. I have only just started my collection and already can't wait for my next read; Tomcat Fury: A Combat History of the F-14. Luckily I have a couple trips to make tomorrow!
