Iris Gray knows witches aren’t welcome in most towns. When she was forced to leave her last home after an illegal display of magic, she left behind a father who was no longer willing to start over. Otherwise, she spends her days at the wildlife refuge which would be the perfect job if not for Pike Alder, the witch-hating aspiring ornithologist who interns with them.
Iris concocts the perfect curse for Pike: one that will turn him into a witch. But just as she’s about to dispel it, a bird swoops down and steals the curse before flying away. If the bird dies, the curse will be unleashed—and the bird is a powerful amplifier, and unleashing the curse would turn not just Pike, but everyone in the region, into a witch.
New witches have no idea how to control their magic and the consequences would be dire. And the Witches’ Council does not look kindly on multiple offenses; if they found out, Iris could be stripped of her magic for good. Iris begs Pike to help her track the bird, and they set out on a trek through the Pacific Northwest looking for a single bird that could destroy everything.

So good I wish we had more
4.5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, officially. I loved the premise, the form of magic, and the characters in the book. I just wish it was longer, as in, I wish she went into more detail on a lot of things. It just went really fast, and it was such a good story I wish she had added more to it to help us know that characters, the history, and the lore better. It was very good though, if you like witches you’ll enjoy this book.

Fall, Magic, Danger, and Romance
I've been in love with this cover since I first set eyes on it. I've been meaning to read it since I first saw Rachel Griffin's teasers about it. And I am so glad I snagged it during a recent audible sale, because it was the PERFECT listen during my road trip.
I was absolutely swept away into the world of Iris Grey, the Pacific NW, and the magic she desperately hid from those around her. Griffin does an excellent job of making Iris easy to understand and relate to, from her initial hate for Pike to her reluctant teamwork, then compassion, and eventually painful love that puts him first. Their conversations in the woods, as he explains that annoying her seemed to be the only thing that got her out of her head and into the present moment, charmed me. Iris's struggles to accept this version of Pike were believable, complex, and heart-warming.
A friend sent me the second book in this series, so I am very much looking forward to continuing the adventure!!

Is there going to be a book 2?!?!?!
Ok first off I absolutely love the enemies to lovers point of view; both different but at the same time there was a lot to discover about one another. Then the storytelling was amazing; it transported me back to the time I went to Seattle with my partner. Then just the invitation to realize that magic is something we can love even in the eyes of different people.

Rachel Griffin is a Thief
I love this book. It’s so cozy and beautifully written. It’s like she steals the feelings I have about the forest straight out of my thoughts and frames them more eloquently than I could.
Some of the vocal intonations feel wrong from the voice actor, but otherwise I love this.
