Mark, the author of this gospel was not a disciple of Jesus Christ. However, he was the first one to write a biography on Jesus Christ. . Mark seemed to have enjoyed a high social status in Jerusalem, which should have either been due to their connection to the priestly families or simply due to wealth.
Jesus often visited Mark’s family possibly as and when He was in Jerusalem. Therefore Mark’s house carried lasting memories in the life and ministry of Jesus, particularly the night of the last supper Jesus had with His disciples before He was betrayed and crucified.
When Mark wrote his gospel, he decided to emphasize not on the doctrine and teachings of Jesus Christ like other writers as Matthew but present Jesus as a person of actions and as one who came to transform the lives of people. During his lifetime Mark must have seen even some of the Romans accepting the teaching and doctrine of Jesus Christ and becoming Christians.
It was not an easy task to compile in a small book all that Jesus did on earth and then prove that Jesus was the Son of God. In other words, Mark had to prove first, why God Himself had to come as a man to earth. Then he had to prove that Jesus was that God man. Mark wanted to write these concepts in his book for the new Christian converts, many of whom were from non-Jewish origin and were perhaps Greeks or heathen or pagan or Roman or whatever it may be.
