RFK Jr. announced on April 19th, 2023 that he would challenge the incumbent U.S. President Joe Biden for the Democratic Party’s nomination. This announcement sent shockwaves with Democrats who fear this will only help Donald Trump become president once again. RFK Jr. is the son of Bobby Kennedy and the nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy who were both assassinated by crazed gunmen. RFK Jr. was present when his father died from the bullet of the assassin after winning the California democratic primary on June 5th, 1968 at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles.
RFK Jr. is the 4th Kennedy to seek the oval office and the most controversial due to his views on Covid vaccines, conspiracy theories on the assassinations of his uncle and father, his views on the war in Ukraine and numerous other topics. He has gained traction with independents and moderates who are dissatisfied with Biden and do not want to see Trump return to the White House.
RFK Jr. represents a fresh perspective on certain topics; however, he is an environmental lawyer that has never held public office and is completely untested to the pressures it brings. The 2024 election will be unprecedented in U.S. history with a former president being indicted on numerous felony charges while the current president struggling with his age and his ability to lead the country. RFK Jr. could copy the play book from Trump in 2016 playing the role of an outsider fighting a rigged system that likes to nominate only established candidates.
