Where the Hell Did "HELL" Go?

None of us knows when our life will end. The author, in the “October of his years”, realizes the sand in the hourglass is running out and wonders about his life, approaching death and what to expect, if anything, after that. Remembering Karl Menninger’s book “Whatever Became of Sin?” led him to the logical question “whatever happened to hell?” Christopher Hitchens, the famous atheist said, “Death is certain, replacing both the siren-song of Paradise and the dread of Hell.” Once you die, that’s it! The author expected that from Hitchens but when the Superior General of the Jesuit order claimed Satan is a myth and Pope Francis speaks of “annihilation” of damned souls instead of eternal hellfire, he has to rethink the whole idea of hell. One of the major issues he faced was why do more than half of Americans today believe in hell but preachers, teachers and the Church never talk about hell anymore?
