Book two of the epic saga set at the time of Caesar's conquest of Gaul continues with Ferryman and Devin struggling to finish the repairs of their boat, and in the tales themselves, as the Veneti contend with the aftermath of their battle against the Curiosolites. It seems as if the warriors of the Fiarmar, with the help of the stranger Dorhos the Atrebatian, have won a hard-fought peace against their neighbours. But Caesar is coming, and Harn and Brighid and the Veneti find themselves drawn into the coming conflict through their friendships and loyalties, a conflict that will test their courage and resolve to the limits of their endurance.
