When Platinum Rusts is a biopunk dystopian fantasy about the fragile beginnings of a future we never meant to enter.
In the ruins of a failed colonisation project, Eternum, Doctor Selest Dvali leads a desperate experiment: to engineer a new kind of human. Not from ambition, but from fear, duty, and love.
With only scraps of forgotten technology and a few fractured allies, Selest attempts to build loaders—genetically and technologically enhanced beings, strong enough to survive civilisation’s end.
But the deeper she delves, the more the lines blur. Ethics erode. Mistakes multiply. And every failure leaves a permanent scar.
Set fifty years before the Who is Vist series, this novel stands alone to uncover the buried legacy and the secret origin of Vist.

This audiobook was such a pleasant surprise. The story itself is light, sweet, and comforting, but the narration really brings it to life. Listening felt effortless, like settling into a cozy moment rather than concentrating on a plot.

The narrator captures the main character’s personality beautifully, especially the mix of stress, humor, and vulnerability. The emotional beats land naturally, and the chemistry feels genuine without being overdone. I found myself smiling more than once, especially during the quieter moments that reveal the heart of the story.

What I enjoyed most was how relatable it all feels. It balances real-life responsibilities with romantic possibilities in a way that feels warm and hopeful. The pacing works well for audio, making it easy to listen while driving, cleaning, or winding down at night.

This is the kind of audiobook that leaves you feeling lighter when it ends. Perfect if you are looking for something comforting, engaging, and genuinely enjoyable to listen to.

This was an unsettling listen that has stuck with me. I'm interested in how systems shape people and this makde me think about belief, obedience, and what it costs to keep going when trust is gone. The tone felt restrained and almost gentle, even when the ideas were disturbing. That contrast made the darker parts land harder for me.

I like dystopian concepts and this book really does a good job of exploring a lot of these concepts. It has an interesting concept with life create and the characters throughout the book are well developed which makes the plot even more interesting.

When Platinum Rusts is a striking blend of biopunk, dystopian fantasy, and philosophical depth that feels refreshingly outside the norm. This isn’t a story that follows familiar genre beats—it challenges them. The world is gritty, strange, and intelligently constructed, with biotechnology and power structures woven seamlessly into the narrative.

What really sets this book apart is its willingness to ask uncomfortable questions about control, identity, and what it means to be human in a system designed to rewrite you. The pacing is tight, the atmosphere is heavy in the best way, and the imagery lingers long after you’ve put the book down.

The characters feel raw and real, shaped—and scarred—by the world they inhabit. There’s a sense of decay and inevitability throughout, but also defiance, which keeps the story compelling rather than bleak.

If you enjoy dystopian fiction that’s smart, dark, and unapologetically different—something that trusts the reader to think—When Platinum Rusts is an outstanding read.

I spent a lot of time thinking about the ethics of the colony after I finished this audiobook because the questions it raises are so difficult. The narrative doesn't provide easy answers, which makes the journey of Dr. Dvali feel much more honest and impactful. The setting is described with such clarity that I could practically see the overgrown ruins and the flickering lights of the lab. It is a very atmospheric and moody story that prioritizes the internal struggle of the characters, making it a great choice for anyone who prefers their sci-fi with a lot of philosophical depth.
