A short Pride and Prejudice variation

Without the beauty and wit of the older Bennet sisters or the liveliness of the younger, Mary is the Bennet sister most often overlooked.

She has resigned herself to a life of loneliness, alleviated only by music and the occasional book of military history. Colonel Fitzwilliam finds himself envying his friends who are marrying wonderful women while he only attracts empty-headed flirts.

He longs for a caring, well-informed woman who will see the man beneath the uniform. During the wedding breakfast for Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet, a chance meeting in Longbourn’s garden kindles an attraction between Mary and the Colonel.

However, the Colonel cannot marry for love since he must wed an heiress. He returns to war, although Mary finds she cannot easily forget him. Is happily ever after possible after Mary meets the Colonel?

I enjoyed reading a book where Mary got noticed and gained her happiness. Her character is overlooked and undervalued in most Pride and Prejudice fan books. This is a light, low angst, sweet book.

Fun Read

I love this cute story of Mary and Colonel Fitzwilliam’s story. I like that she ends up with the colonel and not Mr Collins.

Love this romantic and sweet story

I normally don’t go for stories that had other characters than Elizabeth and Darcy as main characters. But this short novella vas very cute and I liked a lot. Victoria Kincaid is very skilled at writing and Stevie Zimmerman is great at narrating JAFF stories. Just love her voice. I highly recommend this book to a Jane Austen fan fiction lover.

Cute story

Very rewarding to have an ignored secondary character blossom in her own story. Nice and engaging portrayal of Mary in her moment.

Go, Mary!

I rather enjoy this story. In P&P, Mary Bennett is more a caricature than anything else and I always thought she could be intriguing if given more humanity and depth. This variation does a nice job of it. The focus is on Mary and the Colonel and hearing their thoughts as time goes on is fun.

Mary isn't silly. She has a very well educated brain and a better understanding of the world than anyone gives her credit for.

The biggest drawback to the story is Kitty and Maria Lucas. They are over the top silly. However, as their main part is to be the catalyst for a meeting in the beginning, I can forgive the author for the excess.

Stevie Zimmerman does a good job of reading it. Though I honestly would have preferred a male voice reading it, like Harry Frost, it was still good.

A delightful JAFF novella

I didn’t understand this match from the description, but the story is very well written. This is now one of my favorite JAFFs. It is short but has a lot of emotion. I could listen to it over and over again.

Delightful

This is a lovely, quick-listen Mary Bennet novella that features our dear colonel. Victoria Kincaid brings out all the wonderful qualities I’ve always known Mary possessed but just needed the right encouragement to bring to the forefront. In this case, that encouragement comes from Colonel Fitzwilliam. He happens upon her by chance in the Longbourn garden during Elizabeth and Darcy’s wedding, as he tries to evade Kitty and Maria’s infatuation with a redcoat. At his prompting, Mary opens up to him, and he discovers a side of her he has never seen in a society lady.

The story offers just the right balance of sweet romance and a touch of angst, in the form of a possible rival, to keep the plot moving towards an ultimately happy ending. I’ve never read a Victoria Kincaid story I didn’t love, and I recommend this one as well—a perfect fit when time is limited.

Stevie Zimmerman delivers an outstanding performance, as always.

Sweet Mary Bennet story featuring Col. Fitzwilliam

It is good to hear that Mary improves in looks and temperament. She attracts the attention of Col. Richard Fitzwilliam as well other suitable men. She tends to Richard when he is recovering from the injuries he received at the battle of Waterloo. This is a pretty good short story, but is too short to really develop the characters.

Mary finally blossoms
