The book of Joel begins with an urgent and commanding tone, illustrating a locust swarm ravaging the land. It describes four different groups of locusts, each sequentially consuming as much as they can from the people. This natural catastrophe is portrayed as a result of the people’s disobedience and actions against God. Yet, the Lord’s love for His people stops Him from entirely abandoning them. Midway through, the tone shifts, and Joel offers a message of hope and an appeal for repentance. This message remains relevant for modern followers of God.
“What the Locusts Left” is a Biblical study on the book of Joel. It explores the aftermath of a disastrous event, showing how redemption and blessings can follow soon after. Joel was referenced in Peter’s speech to the people of his time, describing a people upon whom the spirit of the Lord would be poured out. This message remains relevant today, as modern believers experience God’s love and Spirit being poured out and shared among people. The church and its members can prepare to influence society in ways that align them with the kingdom of God. However, achieving this requires understanding the challenges involved. Through this, individuals can gain the knowledge, skills, and understanding necessary to become the servants and vessels God intended all people to be.
