Mr. Darcy is delighted to take his wife sailing while the couple is in Brighton. But what is intended as a romantic holiday turns into tragedy when Elizabeth is swept off the deck and into the sea. Mr. Darcy will never forget the sight of his beloved Elizabeth sinking beneath the waves, and he is plunged into despair.

Some miles down the coast, a young woman’s nearly lifeless body is discovered and brought to a nearby doctor. When she finally awakens, she has no memory of her past and is entirely dependent on the goodwill of the doctor and his sister.

Elizabeth’s absence has unexpected consequences for the Bennets, and – surprisingly – for the inhabitants of Rosings Park, as well.

Mr. Bennet, Jane, Charlotte Collins and Mr. Darcy dream about Elizabeth almost every night; much to their surprise, they are dreaming the same dreams! They dream about Elizabeth living with a man and a woman, being at a party, rolling bandages. Is it possible that Elizabeth is alive? And, if she is, how will they ever find her?
