Heartfelt and devastating.

The description for this book drew me in, but the raw and fascination story and research kept me. As someone who had a student loan follow me around for a very long time I had flashbacks to trying to nurse my infant twins while debt collectors called me a terrible mother.

I knew that the entire business of student loans was corrupt and relentless, I didn't know that it went so deep. it was truly heartbreaking to hear borrowers stories alongside the authors experience trying to navigate a way out of things from both sides.

Beautifully written, wonderfully narrated. I laughed and I cried. What a poignant and well needed book for so many generations. I can't wait to talk about this at book club! Kudos to the author for her candor and her vulnerability. Although the subject of this book is heavy, it is navigated in a way where the listener/ reader gets fun little detours to learn about debt throughout history and how it was collected. I finished this book in 4 days while driving back and forth to work and I couldn't wait to hear what happened next. So much so, that I spent a few extra hours a night listening to it in bed while playing games.
