Historia
For millennia, owls have captivated and intrigued us. Our fascination with these mysterious birds was first documented more than thirty thousand years ago in the Chauvet Cave paintings in southern France. With their forward gaze and quiet flight, owls are often a symbol of wisdom, knowledge, and foresight. But what does an owl really know? And what do we really know about owls? Jennifer Ackerman illuminates the rich biology and natural history of these birds and reveals remarkable new scientific discoveries about their brains and behavior.

Over the 30 years they had worked together, Alex and Irene had become famous - two pioneers who opened an unprecedented window into the hidden yet vast world of animal minds.

After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

I’m a sucker, I guess....
I absolutely disappeared into this book; I mean TOTALLY ceased to pay attention to everything else going on around me! A sizeable amount of the story, I heard through my earbuds, mostly during physical therapy sessions. Another big chunk, my two teenaged grandchildren heard in my car as I trundled them from orthodontist to library to meeting their Dad to transfer custody. Since I live some thirty country miles from town, those jaunts involved lots of quiet time. I was amazed when they came out of their tablets and listened to the book instead!
The narrator was absolutely perfect, capturing the emotion as well as the excitement and scientific basis for various events and observations.
I love animal stories, not tearjerkers, but those that involve learning and building bridges between species.... this will be, and should be, a classic. It is perfect for almost anyone that can sit still long enough to listen to the individual events and sections. For the younger audience, that will break il into just about perfect lengths for restless kiddos.
LOVED THIS BOOK!! Multiply the stars, because three of us loved it!

I loved the story of Wesley the Owl
I never write reviews, but generally read a few if i don't know the author. I loved this book! I have birds and could totally relate to the authors view of Wesley. I started listening to it yesterday afternoon and couldn't stop. If you don't love birds it might not be for you, but if u love animals and connect with them, this book is charming and insighful. I would recommend this book to people that love animals or have school aged children. it is a wonderful story.

Eye Opening!
This was a charming little story. You really can understand the life and psychology of an owl.
However, this story made me sad. The woman in the story had a very unhealthy relationship with this little creature. Because of it, I don't think she could ever have a normal life. She is a very kind woman, but I felt sorry for her. She lost herself.

I LOVE this book!
I learned so much reading this story- it's sincere, informative and heartfelt. The author is a highly educated woman who adopted an abandoned owlet before his eyes were even open. She structured her life around keeping him safe and cared for. It is a remarkable tale that will stay with you for a long time.
