Resumen del Editor
“Tanya was good at many things, but her most useful gift was breaking up bar fights.”
Tanya has been working at her tavern, the Smiling Snake, since she was able to see above the bar. She broke up her first fight at age eight. By the time she was a teenager, she could run the place with her eyes closed. And now, at seventeen, she’s confident enough that she’d never let anyone take advantage of her—whether it be a drunkard or captain of the Queen’s guard.
But when her guardian dies, she might lose it all: the bar, her home, and her purpose in life. Even though she doesn’t see herself as a hero, she sets off on a quest to petition the queen and save her tavern. Along the way, she’ll have to navigate corrupt guards, swashbuckling thieves, a city of fire, and an enchanted feather that seems to be calling to her …
Fast-paced, action-packed, and totally magical, Wench is epic fantasy like you’ve never seen it before.
“A fierce, feminist romp through the adventures of a tavern wench. Like an old classic fairy tale, with bands of thieves and magical feathers, but with more badass female characters.”—Shea Ernshaw, New York Times bestselling author of The Wicked Deep

Historia
On the remote isle of Rosevear, Mira, like her mother before her, is a wrecker, one of the seven on the rope who swim out to shipwrecks to plunder them. Mira’s job is to rescue survivors, if there are any. After all, she never feels the cold of the frigid ocean waters and the waves seem to sing to her soul. But the people of Rosevear never admit the truth: that they set the beacons themselves to lure ships into the rocks. When the Council watch lays a trap to put an end to the wrecking, they arrest Mira’s father. Desperate to save him from the noose, Mira strikes a deal.

Liska knows that magic is monstrous, and its practitioners are monsters. She has done everything possible to suppress her own magic, to disastrous consequences. Desperate to be free of it, Liska flees her small village and delves into the dangerous, demon-inhabited spirit-wood to steal a mythical fern flower. If she plucks it, she can use its one wish to banish her powers. Everyone who has sought the fern flower has fallen prey to unknown horrors, so when Liska is caught by the demon warden of the wood—called The Leszy—a bargain seems better than death.

Welcome to Tiankawi—shining pearl of human civilization and a safe haven for those fleeing civil unrest. Or at least, that’s how it first appears. But in the semi-flooded city, humans are, quite literally, on top: peering down from skyscrapers and aerial walkways on the fathomfolk—sirens, seawitches, kelpies and kappas—who live in the polluted waters below. And the fathomfolk are tired of it. When a water-dragon and a half siren join forces, the path to equality is filled with violence, secrets, and political intrigue.

With one glance at her in the club, I’m ready to claim her for the night. Dark, flowing hair. A smile that causes my heart to pound. Eyes that pierce my soul. And a perfect body that makes every part of me pulse. She’s addictive. Electrifying. Consuming. I’ve never wanted anyone more. Our eyes meet, but she looks right past me. She isn’t here for me. She’s here for the music. For the first time in my life, a woman makes me work for it. Her indifference fuels the fire inside me. The result? One night. No names. No introductions.

A great fantasy with a really fun use of magic
I loved this book. The narration is fantastic, the writing is funny, and the book itself does things with magic that I haven’t seen before. Without spoiling it, it’s both terrifying and fascinating and something I wish I could do. Looking forward to what comes next!
