The author points out that although many people tell others to take breaks but how, when most people are struggling to make ends meet, can they afford it? The poem "Clinically Depressed" goes into detail about how the author has been dealing with depression and anxiety.

Another theme that the author explores in subtle hints throughout her work is the world of BDSM. Although she doesn't quite come out and say it, the reader can get a sense of her exploration into this world through her use of language and imagery.
