LONDON 1917

As the Americans enter the War, there is renewed energy in the war effort. With husbands and sons fighting for freedom, the women of Harpers are left to tackle the day-to-day affairs at home and work.

With Ben Harper away, Sally fears she is being followed by a mysterious woman. Who is she and what does she want?

Maggie Gibbs collapses seriously ill in the frontline hospitals and is brought back to England close to death. Can she be saved and what does the future hold for her and her broken heart?

Marion Jackson’s father is on the run from the Police already wanted for murder. She fears he will return to threaten his family once more. And Beth Burrows is pregnant with her second child, worried and anxious for her husband Jack, who has been many months at sea.

As Christmas 1917 approaches what will the future hold for Harpers, its girls and their men at War?

Narrator is unfortunately a different lady.

I really liked the narrator, Juliet Burton, from the first books. These are such good books and the new narrator makes Jenny sounds so harsh as well as some of the male voices. Others sound like they always have whining voices. I know it is always hard when narrators are switched.

The great story continues

The story told of the struggles different people and families experienced during the war but not in a gruesome way. I could not put it down. Can't wait to get to the next one

Good Story but Beware of the Narration

The stories of the Harper Girls continue to entertain and impress me to the point where I could see this becoming a limited edition series on PBS or Netflix. I enjoy the multiple storylines as well as the development of the main characters as they develop relationships and experience the war.

I raised the narration from a 1 star in my previous reviews to 2 stars this time because Marco is now a BIT easier to understand and Sadie no longer has the speech impediment. Jennie, however, sounds like an angry and nasally Velma from Scooby-Doo. Twice I had to go back to re-listen to the word “pneumonia” to understand what Jennie was saying with her American accent. And I’m American!!?
The narrator has a lovely speaking voice but I feel as if her agent/manager did her a disservice with this role.

Excellent story, atrocious narration

This installment fills in many story lines and is a great story. BUT the narrator with the exaggerated accents and whiny, childish voices ruins the book. One character was given a ridiculous lisp and "Jenny's voice" is obnoxiously nasal.
If you can get past the bad narration, it's a good book.

Positive story line.

This audible book is one of series and has given me hours of pleasantness. With all the negative things in our society today, it is a time to count your blessings as these young women demonstrated.

Another great story, narration slightly better

Someone must’ve told Polly about all the bad reviews regarding her narration because Sadie lost her speech impediment and although still not great with the American accents, she sounded a bit better. The story is great!

Good listen!

Of course I have to listen to all the books in this series at this point. I enjoy listening to the characters stories and the characters. My only complaint is the voice of the American sister is grating and annoying. Also some of the character voices have changed from the first book. Not for the better.

I love the story line

I love the series, great story line of girlfriends
The narration is very much lacking at times its even painful to listen to. I think they changed the narration during the series so that would be my only complaint
