For twenty years, Lace has ruled Plyan, the capitol of Thanan and what is left of the once magnificent empire of Espilacopa. He has rebuilt the city and brought structure and hope to the survivors of the devastated planet of Spark.
But the church is raising a resistance against the man who came to Spark with the Lightbringer, executing their emperor of old. Father Shalitha has been picking up the pieces of his church for two decades, and he is finally ready to launch a war against the capitol.
Inis and Ziggy finds themselves caught in the middle, and with differing loyalties. While Inis struggles to disobey the church that raised xan, Ziggy has no intensions of fighting any war, except his own, against his crippling disease.
To complicate matters, a spaceship lands in their midst, containing a well-known pirate and a boy, who claims to be the God of the Dead.
