Resumen del Editor

One of the world's most acclaimed adventure writers returns to the world of ancient Egypt with the stunning sequel to the New York Times best-selling River God.

After the death of his beloved Queen Lostris, Taita retreats into the forbidding deserts of North Africa to become a hermit. He devotes himself to the study of the occult and, armed with extraordinary powers, he gradually transforms himself into a warlock. After years of study, he discovers the divine purpose of his bereavement when he is called upon to save the dynasty of Lostris from the clouds of evil that loom over Egypt.

Exploding with all the drama, mystery, and passion of a bygone time, Warlock is a masterpiece from a storyteller at the height of his powers.

A good tale

I'd give it 3.7. Smith writes well, especially of battles and sex. I hoped for more history, and not just of elites. Also, for me the magical element got in the way. But it's entertaining, and Hill's reading is competent.

Graphic Violence and Sexual Content

This book has a good story line, although it was somewhat predictable. I really like Wilbur Smith, but he is 'over the top' in graphic violence and sexual content. In most cases it did little to enhance the novel, and seemed so unnecessary (such as ripping babies from the womb). If you have sensitive dispositions, avoid this book. If you can overlook the violence, it is a good book to read

History, fiction and a touch of magic

Warlock is a book of history and fiction and just a small touch of magic and mysticism. Nefer the grandson of Queen Lostris, is in a battle against the forces of evil and Taita is summoned from beyond to aid the Pharaoh Nefer in defeating a usurper Pharaoh. A great narration from Dick Hill brings life to an already brilliant story. Wilbur Smith mixes history with fiction and entertains and thrills are boundless in Warlock.

I wanted this, but was a little disappointed ...

I loved 'The River God', and hoped Wilbur Smith would write a sequel. Even though all his peeps were gone, I wanted to know what Taita did in his later years! 'Warlock" certainly tells that. The characters are true, the writing fluid and fluent, the story engrossing, just not quite as enthralling as 'River God'. They're great together though!

Exceptional Listening!

Gripping story. Wilbur Smith paints a picture like no other. The narrator was superb and he made each character come to vivid life.

Warlock

Loved River God, but the supernatural aspects of Taita took away from the resourcefulness of him in the first book.

I'll quit the series now, they're not improving

I loved the first two books in this series. However, this one seemed to go downhill just a bit. Based on other reviews, I think I'll stop with this one. I do like the narrator though - does a good job with these.

Fantastic as sequel or stand alone! Original!

An incredible book...truly delicious...I couldn't turn it off...my house is super organized now and my walks with the protagonist have been so much fun. The novel has it all...mystery...suspense...characters to love and wonderful historical detail! The best spend of a credit I've had with audible. You won't regret getting this one...thanks to the previous reviewers who described it so well! Loved it!
