Resumen del Editor

Sometimes the world is a very dark place. You know the magic is still out there, but it feels distant or displaced. Voices in the Darkness is an attempt to create a link, to bring some of those voices together in a single work of art. Six award-winning authors lent their talent to this work. The stories are unique and dark, filled with wonder and emotion.

Included are:

Nadia Bulkin's "Vide Cor Meum (See My Heart)", narrated by Gigi Shane, is a unique twist on true crime as fiction.

Kathe Koja's "Pursuivant Island", narrated by Joshua Saxon, will resonate differently with every listener, has meaning on different levels, and touches on an actual artistic event.

Elizabeth Massie's "Baggie", narrated by Edward Gist, explores the horror of losing control of one's life, self, everything to another.

Cassandra Khaw presents "I'd Rather Wear Black", narrated by Claire Suzanne Elizabeth Cooney, a story that takes you on a journey through the pain of bad relationships, while reminding her listeners of their own self worth.

Nick Mamatas takes on the historical character behind the old, old song "Mack the Knife", in his tale, titled appropriately "Ba boo Dop doo Dop boo ree," narrated by Seylan Baxter.

Brian A. Hopkins' novella La Belle Époque, narrated by Laurie Catherine Winkel, explores history, Winchester rifles, and addiction of a very personal persuasion.

We all hear voices in the darkness; in this audiobook, you will hear six of them very clearly.

Great stories narrated by fantastic voices!!

Lately, I’ve been reading & listening to a ton of short story collections…, and I found myself really enjoying them in audiobook form, especially , when the collection is narrated by various voice actors/narrators.

Voices in the Darkness has 6 stories, all narrated by a different person. All 6 stories are superb, but I do have a couple favorites:
• Pursuivant Island by Kathe Koja
• Baggie by Elizabeth Massie
• La Belle Époque by Brian A. Hopkins

Joshua Saxon, the narrator for Kathe Koja’s Pursuivant Island did an EXCEPTIONAL job!!! I’ve listened to several audiobooks narrated by Saxon and he has so easily become one of my top 5 favorite narrators!! He’s so damn good!!!

Without question 2021’a best Horror Anthology (so far…)

It shouldn’t surprise anyone familiar with the work of the authors involved in this project that it this collection is nothing short of a masterpiece. And yet here I am, still feeling as though I couldn’t believe it was as amazing as I’d hoped, but it exceeded every expectation I had and then continued to impress.

This is a must read for any Horror fan ASAP.

One of the Best Horror Anthologies in Decades!

I haven't been this excited to pick up a collection of dark, cosmic horror fiction since I was twelve years old and sifting through my dad's many editions of "Best New Horror". Voices in the Darkness feels like one of those collections, but with more teeth-- the introduction describes the premise of the collection as a sort primal revelry, a finger in the eye of its year of inception, a year that... well, we all know what 2020 was like. So how do you put together a collection of fantasy and horror stories in the face of that sort of grim year?

I suppose you let your imagination of its leash. Pull the harness off, just like each of the writers in this collection. As the kids say, every story here is a "banger" of its kind, weaving together narratives that are creepy, disarming, brutal, emotional and especially haunting. From maniac street preachers to immortal lovers to the dooming dread of climate change on levels never imagined, each story is fused together with the feral emotions of a Gods and monsters on the brink.

If you're looking for an emotionally curated collection with horror stories that conjure wonder and dread, this is an audiobook experience for you. If it was a movie, it would be an A24 joint, like an intellectual version of the Amicus Tales from the Crypt or Vault of Horror. All of the stories have that sort of British flavor, an icy coolness that belies something more ferocious just around the bend. I was reminded of my early experiences with Clive Barker throughout stories like "Baggy" and "La Belle Époque", but in the best way-- that sense of boundless imagination, untethered and free to scuttle about a large topographical landscape of 19th and 20th century iconography while supernatural violence brims to the surface and bends our heroes about. It's a whole mood, as many reviewers have pointed out in their own musings on the collection.

Still not sold? What if I put on my Gene Siskel hat? With smart, sharp, empathetic horror stories that keep you thinking about them long after their finished, David Nial Wilson's Voices in Darkness is an exquisite corpse indeed. If Brian A. Hopkins’ La Belle Époque doesn't having you smiling by the time those 9 hours are up, I'm not sure what will.

A+ work from Kathe Koja, Nadia Bulkin, Elizabeth Massie, Cassandra Khaw, Nick Mamatas, Brian A. Hopkins

Excellent narration and production values on the audiobook itself. Check it out!
