She didn’t grow up with a voice. But she made sure her children did.

Leah was raised in a home ruled by silence, fear, and expectations. As a child, she learned to stay small, quiet, and obedient—never questioning, never resisting. But when she became a mother, she knew something had to change.

In Voices: Respectful but Unafraid, Leah reflects on her journey of raising three children—Mateo, Lila, and Maya—with intention, love, and a commitment to break the generational cycles she grew up in. Through moments of tenderness, conflict, vulnerability, and growth, Leah learns how to give her children what she never had: the freedom to speak, to feel, and to become.

This emotionally resonant novel—rooted in truth and told with raw honesty—offers a moving portrait of motherhood, healing, and the quiet revolution that happens when a woman chooses to raise her children differently.

For anyone who’s ever longed to rewrite their story—this book is for you.

Voices: Respectful but Unafraid is one of those short audiobooks that manages to hit harder than works twice its length. Leah’s story, growing up in silence and choosing something different for her own children, is written with a raw honesty that stays with you long after the final chapter. It is emotional without ever feeling forced, and the way Linda A. Sanchez captures the quiet strength of breaking generational cycles is truly moving.

As someone who appreciates stories about growth, healing, and the complicated reality of family, this book hit all the right notes. The reflections on motherhood, fear, tenderness, and learning to speak up felt incredibly real.

Kelly Weeks’ narration is excellent, warm, steady, and full of empathy. She brings Leah’s voice to life in a way that feels authentic and personal, making the emotional moments land even deeper.

For a one hour listen, this audiobook delivers an experience that feels much bigger. If you enjoy stories about resilience, self discovery, and choosing a better path for the next generation, this is absolutely worth the listen.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. It was short but it had so much in it that shows Leah’s strength to overcome her childhood trauma. I think this would be a great book for anyone that has any kind of trauma growing up or as an adult.

Voices Respectful but Unafraid beautifully captures Leah's transformation from a silenced child to an empowering mother. I loved how the book delves into her childhood filled with fear and obedience, making her determination to change for her kids Mateo, Lila, and Maya so relatable. The tender moments of teaching them to express emotions stood out, showing genuine love and intention. Conflicts in parenting are portrayed with raw honesty, highlighting vulnerability and growth. Leah's commitment to breaking generational cycles inspired me deeply. The emotional resonance of healing through motherhood is profound and moving. This novel feels like a quiet revolution in family dynamics. I appreciated the truthful storytelling that blends memoir-like elements with fiction. I would recommend this book to parents seeking to foster open communication and anyone healing from a restrictive upbringing. It's perfect for those who want to rewrite their family stories with respect and courage.

Having listened to Linda Sanchez’s other book, Half of Me, and being captivated by its emotional depth, I decided to give this audiobook a chance. I’m grateful I did, because I found another emotionally intense work that follows the line of her previous book about the need to find a sense of meaning in a world we sometimes no longer feel is ours, but with an even more profound tone.

I love how she included the topic of generational trauma in this work, because it’s something I’ve been facing frequently lately. I found it relieving to hear that many people experience the same struggles, and I took this story as a form of catharsis that made me feel better. This work is an ode to decluttering feelings, memories, and personality traits, encouraging readers and listeners to find which parts of ourselves we want to carry forward in life and which we want to leave behind, as distant memories of who we were in the past, without blame or shame, so we can become a better version of ourselves for both ourselves and our loved ones.
