I Need More!
This piece gave me one taste into this hearty world, and I'm hooked! Leonard and Veil lead an explosive start to the narrative that act as a nice foil to the speaker. We're lead on a journey in administering justice, and all throughout the court arc, you can't help but root for Veil to win the case. His tangential and near-chaotic defense leaves you wondering if all the effort is worth it, keeping you on your toes and laughing along the way.
Does he succeed? I'll leave that to you to find out. Highly recommend!

A Clever Tale Told Excellently
An engaging short tale about criminal justice. Veil oozes with cunning and charisma and Hap and Leonard are a hoot and a holler! Nice to enjoy this story on a long walk or a drive on the bus, Lansdale's voicework absolutely nails the southern vibe of the story.

Leonard is in trouble.... again
This is a very short story about what happens after Leonard burns down a crack house in his neighborhood... again. The law takes a dim view of his arson and he is up for trial. Hap helps his friend by calling an old acquaintance...a lawyer named Veil. Veil has a very distinct definition of justice and the law. If justice means that the law gets a bit bent, that's acceptable. Veils defense of Leonard is what most of us wish court was like.
Fair warning, there is a lot of profanity and implied violence here. But you are listening to a Hap and Leonard story, so that's hardly unexpected. If you enjoyed any of their other adventures, then you will enjoy this.

Well Done!
I really enjoyed the way the authors made Hap and Leonard characters that said what was on their mind. They felt raw and real. The story itself was nice and bite size, lending itself as a good introduction to the other books with Hap and Leonard. I also enjoyed the interaction with Veil, DA and Judge. Pretty hilarious.

Great Short Story
Great short story that has a “My Cousin Vinny” feel to it but set in a more Southern tone. Great listen for a rush hour traffic trip.

Awsome introduction to Hap and Leonard, giving us a brief taste of the boys and the crazy things they get up to in every book! i'm looking forward to Devil red becoming an audio book along with Hyena some day...well Devil Red comes out in September but who knows when Hyena will be released, lets hope its sooooooon!

Love The Narration!
