Resumen del Editor

Corrupt senior officers, a murder, a rape, and a flasher. Can DI Terry McGuire's day get any worse? McGuire became a police officer to uphold the law and to protect those who cannot protect themselves. When he discovers a connection between a former friend and colleague, and a body buried on a beach that appears to have been frozen for five years, McGuire knows there is only one course of action he can take.

With a murder, a rape, and a flasher adding to McGuire's headache, is there a connection between his colleagues and the awful events unfolding? Can McGuire stand up for what he believes and bring the perpetrators to justice, whoever they may be?

Authors Arthur Cole and Nigel Williams have nearly 50 years of policing experience between them.

Good series starter

This is a good police procedural that held my attention from beginning to end. The narration was very well done. I️ will definitely pick up the next in the series. I️ received a review copy at my request and voluntarily reviewed.

Enlightening and disturbing...

It's disturbing to think that police officers would act like some of the ones in this book and yet the rest help to restore my faith in the profession. I think it's all the more disturbing because the authors worked as police so if anyone would know...

The characters are well crafted and come across as believable and either likable for the good police or reprehensible for the bad ones. The story is interesting and shows some of the investigative process, there's a fair bit of information in here and there's lots doing on, from twists in the main plot to lighthearted sidelines.

The narration was well done, the character voices were well done and the overall delivery is smooth, natural and well paced. There were a coupe of minor errors that weren't edited out, but this didn't have much effect of my enjoyment.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher in exchange for an honest review.

What happens when other police have done wrong?

As the title suggests, this story sends Inspector Terry McGuire from Wales to Ireland and back when he discovers a decade-old cover-up by his fellow police officers. Three different cases (murder, the discovery of a body, and a flasher) arise and intersect throughout the story.

The chapters alternate between McGuire 1st person and 3rd person. (I think this works well because understanding Terry's thought process adds depth and dimension to the story.) While McGuire is an experienced Inspector, he is not your stereotypical "hard-boiled" detective. He relates well to his colleagues - especially the younger ones and respects his wife. He has a clear moral compass that is shown as he wants the bad guys to come to justice while being compassionate with the victims/survivors. I love the humor and lighter touches the authors sprinkled throughout the story.

The narration is excellent! The narrator captures the spirit and tone of a police investigator working through the challenges of a case. He also handles a variety of accents with alacrity.

This I the first book I have listened to by author and hopefully not the last. This is about police officer Terry McGuire about how he solves 3 cases 1st corrupt senior police officer, 2nd is about a murder that was on ice 5-7yrs and then 3rd catches rapist and flasher takes place in Wales. You can tell by the story and good characters that author was a cop. The narration was deep and mysterious. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you!

British Cops + Jack Urry = Always Excellent

'Unethical Conduct' was a great listen, but I AM a sucker for British cop stories told by Jake Urry (I could listen to him talk about 'coppers' all day!). This story was quite a doozy, though. It's always especially horrifying to hear about corruption in a police force and this one was particularly brutal. The former cop that DI Terry McGuire is investigating is accused of crimes of the thievery variety all the way up to violent, brutal rape and murder. The characters in this tale are interesting and fleshed out; I intend to continue on with the series! As I mentioned, Jake Urry always gives a wonderful performance. I would recommend this book to any friends who enjoy a good thriller!

Great!

This was a really good start to a series. I was hooked on this story from beginning to end and I can't wait to see what's going to happen in book 2. Well written with interesting characters and corrupt coppers - what more could you ask for!?

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. The fact that I was gifted this book had no influence over my opinion of it.

Terrific!

The good, the bad, and the exhibitionist. Good coppers abound everywhere, but there are always the few rotten ones that turn up eventually. It's taken a long time for this one arrogant beast to get close to getting caught even though a lot of coppers and street thugs knew but couldn't prove enough. His arrogance led to a body on the beach under peculiar circumstances but McGuire was able to bring him down. Now if only they could catch the flasher!
Excellent procedural despite the fact that everything happened more than five years ago making proof that much more difficult. Thanks be that everything was fitted into a reasonable length book or I would never have gotten to sleep.
Jake Urry is positively amazing as the voice of McGuire and all the others!

Not surprised it's a 1st novel

In the closing, it's revealed that this is Mr. Cole's 1st novel and Mr. Williams' 2nd writing collaboration. I'm not surprised; it appeared to be written by a novice. The narrator helped elevate it a little, but only so much could be done to help.
This 2-prong mystery was set in Wales. It contained a lot of British-isms like "a pair of scrotes" & a person who was "tattooed asshole to breakfast." I didn't know meanings of some of them, but, w/ context clues, I generally knew if it meant something good or bad. Usually that was enough. There was a liberal use of "f..k", if that bothers you. The characters (almost all males except for 3-4 females with small parts) were a bit cliché. These 2 ex-police-officers-turned-novelists had the requisite good officers vs bad officers. The "good guys" were D.I. Terry McGuire (aka Terr), D.C. John Fuller, and one guy called Die; the "bad guys" were cops, D.I. Colter & Morse and non-cops, Victor (aka Vic) & Samuel. Again most of the story was comprised of male characters, and, unfortunately, all of the narrator's male characters sounded the same. So he was little help to this story full of dull, simplistic writing about a story that's been done, redone and undone. Finally, based on the sample, I hoped the story was witty. The sample was really the only witty part. I was fooled.
