Undeserving

(Novella 1 in the Someone To Love Me trilogy)

My name is Summer Breeze Butler. I know, right? Either my mother was going through some kind of hippy phase that summer, or she’d had one too many blows to the head, the latter being the most plausible explanation. All of my life, I've been treated badly by men, just as my mother had been before me. According to her, it was just the way it was with the women in our family and there was no point in trying to fight it. No sense in dreaming about Prince Charming right out of the story books, he just didn't exist. I had to accept my fate and move on. It was as simple as that. But I desperately needed to be loved. I longed for a man to promise me his heart and soul and protect me from the monsters that I'd grown accustomed to. I prayed that my mother was wrong and that one day I would find him.
