"This is an audiobook one wishes would never end." —AudioFile on The King of Crows (an Earphones Award winner)

From New York Times-bestselling author Libba Bray comes an evocative and groundbreaking young adult historical mystery that examines truth, rebellion, reconciliation, and what must be sacrificed for a better world.

It was said that if you write to the Bridegroom’s Oak, the love of your life will answer back. Now, the tree is giving up its secrets at last.

In 1940s Germany, Sophie is excited to discover a message waiting for her in the Bridegroom's Oak from a mysterious suitor. Meanwhile, her best friend, Hanna, is sending messages too—but not to find love. As World War II unfolds in their small town of Kleinwald, the oak may hold the key to resistance against the Nazis.

In 1980s West Germany, American teen transplant Jenny feels suffocated by her strict parents and is struggling to fit in. Until she finds herself falling for Lena, a punk-rock girl hell-bent on tearing down the wall separating West Germany from East Germany, and meeting Frau Hermann, a kind old lady with secrets of her own.

In Spring 2020, New York City, best friends Miles and Chloe are in the first weeks of COVID lockdown and hating Zoom school, when an unexpected package from Chloe’s grandmother leads them to investigate a cold case about two unidentified teenagers who went missing under the Bridegroom’s Oak eighty years ago.

Reseñas de la Crítica

A Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection

“The legendary Libba Bray writes punk rock journeys across wide swaths of dark history and deep into the wonder of the human soul. She is one of our most original minds and Under the Same Stars will leave you shattered and wildly hopeful.” — E. Lockhart, author of We Were Liars and Genuine Fraud

"Libba Bray is magic. [Her] gorgeous prose and propulsive plotting draw the reader into the lives of young people who are fighting for their communities and themselves and you'll want to fight right alongside them. . . . stirring and absolutely unforgettable." —Samira Ahmed, New York Times-bestselling author of Internment and Hollow Fires

"Immersive... Bray emphasizes how much we’re connected, offering a powerful depiction of transformative storytelling as an act of resistance and a harbinger of the future... a breathtaking journey that will leave a lasting impression on readers’ minds and hearts." —Kirkus Reviews, starred review

"[An] inspiring historical mystery... Bray’s intimate third-person narrative kaleidoscopes back and forth in time, interweaving the three story lines and highlighting their internal resonance." —Publishers Weekly

"The three timelines are beautifully woven together, layered with secret loves, deep betrayals, and painful regrets, all threaded by the persistent theme that resistance to oppression looks different in different times but is always defined by a search for justice." —The Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books

This was a fascinating story about the three groups of teens in different times. The stories not only focus on the conflicts each of these groups face but also how their stories are connected.

I love the three stories intertwined with history

Between the amazing performance of this audiobook and the excellent writing, it left me simply inspired! Best book I have read in a while, this history nerd certainly approves!

Wow. As a conservative, I usually shy away from subjects that don’t align with my core values, and I almost DNF because of it. I couldn’t help but wonder about how it all linked together at the end. I’m glad I kept an open mind. This boon made me laugh, cry, and kept me on the edge of my seat till the end! I would love to read more about Laina!

Under the Same Stars is a beautifully written story that weaves together multiple moments in time with clarity and purpose. Libba Bray’s storytelling is both powerful and tender. Each thread of the narrative is carefully placed, and I never once felt lost or confused. Her writing feels intentional, and there is a quiet confidence in how she moves between perspectives and time periods.

What stands out most is the heart behind the book. This is a story that clearly has something meaningful to say, and it does so without ever feeling heavy-handed. The emotional undercurrents are honest and earned, and the characters feel real in a way that stays with you.

While I gave it 4 out of 5 stars, that is more a reflection of personal taste than any flaw in the writing. This is a moving, well-crafted novel with depth and purpose. I am really glad I read it.

A Quietly Powerful Read

I loved everything about this book. I loved the three story/time lines and how Bray reveals the presence of a character from another time framed so beautifully. I am a suckered for stories that make you question and look at the world around you, something I know will always happen in Bray's books. I know with how vividly she brought memories of Covid and the rebellious moments of the 80s to life, that no doubt the WWII sections will bring tears of horror for most. This book is incredibly important and relevant to what is happening here and now. This is YA that should be in high school reading curriculum right now! Also shout out to the narrators! Thank you for bringing Bray's words to full blown life! if you love a period mystery with meaning and heart, no one does it better than Libba Bray. This book should be on your book club's TBR full of discussion moments and words that will live rent free in your circle. Trust me this read is fantastic!

There is a reason she is one of my faves!

The German soldiers were so cruel to so many people. Similar to today in the USA.

The similarity to our present day.
