Malcolm Bryson is a natural gas measurement technician currently divorced who works at a plant outside the West Texas town where he grew up. He comes home from work to find a small import parking space next to his at his apartment complex. That means that the apartment next to his that was vacant is now occupied. That displeases him because it means he must keep his music low. Even more irritating, he sees that the little red car has a California license plate. In Malcolm’s experience, Californians tended to bring their politics with them. Which meant they weren’t supportive of the oil and gas industry. Malcolm decides to test the volume level limit with his new neighbor and discovers he was allowed to crank it up rather high before a beautiful blonde lady comes knocking at his door. As it turns out, she doesn’t come to complain but compliments him on his musical taste but criticizes him for not listening to it on vinyl.
Over a couple of beers, Malcolm discovers that the young lady is Pamela Katherine Carvin, a native Texan from his hometown with whom he had been acquainted but hadn’t known. He also discovered she was to be his new boss at the gas plant. Despite the complications, they develop a sexual relationship. From there, things only got worse when a gas explosion killed the jealous second-in-command. A Texas Ranger believes the man was murdered and thinks Malcolm is the primary suspect. While searching for the truth, Malcolm and Pamela Katherine, known affectionately as PK, discover an oilfield theft ring connected to a swinger’s porn site. The future looks grim for the young couple, but they struggle to clear everything up.
